Plus, there’s a lot you need to consider before just going out and buying the first decent-looking system you set your eyes on. Below, we’ve provided a full guide that teaches you what to look for in a home gym. This guide will help narrow down your selection and ensure that you get the gym that’s just right for you.

Exercise Options

One of the biggest things to look for is a system that gives you the tools and accessories you need to perform a large variety of exercises. The whole point of a home gym is so that you can get a full workout for your entire body. In order for that to happen, the machine has to have several components that allow it to mimic the capabilities of several other machines.

If you want a truly spectacular workout without having to leave your house you’ll need to find a system that allows you to do exercises such as a curls, chest presses, leg presses, crunches, lat pull downs, and more. This way you can work the muscles in your arms, chest, legs, abdominals, shoulders, etc all with one machine.

Larger machines often offer a lot more variety simply because they include more attachments and settings. They also tend to have a higher-grade weight system. A great home gym will have at least 150 pounds in adjustable weights, whether it be in the form a stack or resistance cords.

Smaller machines, on the other hand, are typically more affordable but also have more limited exercise and weight options. Plus, they also tend to be made of lesser quality materials and are unable to support users over 250 to 300 pounds. Bigger models can hold up to 600 pounds.

As with any product, price is always something to think about. Home gyms can be as cheap as $300 or as expensive as $2,000 or more. Larger, extremely durable machines that allow the user to perform tons of different exercises are often a bit pricier ($800 to $1,200+) while smaller models which give you the ability to do 20-40 exercises and are less durable are a bit cheaper ($250 to $499+).
